The Admission Requirements is as follows:

  •  Your official transcripts are needed.
  •  Send your Proof of English language aptitude test.
  • Certified English translation of any credentials issued in a language other than the English language.
  • A copy of your ID (passport)
  • Copy of any High School Graduation Diploma (if available)
  • Forward a copy of the University Degree attained if available.

Please note that all documents must be translated by a certified translator or notarized if they are in a language other than English.

Vancouver Island University receives international students under one of the following conditions:

  • direct applications (online or paper applications);
  • applications through  any authoritative representatives;
  • institution-to-institution exchange programs;
  • sponsorship through inter-governmental agreements;
  • Champion of academic competitions or international scholarships.

Admission to English Language Studies in the English Language Center

All students must:

  • be an international visitor or hold a study permit;
  • complete an ESL language consideration test (or comparable)

Please keep in mind that students applying for restrictive admission to an undergraduate (or diploma, certificate, or trades) curriculum at VIU, or thinking of applying upon completion of ESL programming, will still be vital to provide confirmation of high school graduation and their secondary school transcripts.

The High School Requirements

All students must:

  • student must have a completed Grade 9, or equivalent;
  • turn 15 years of age by December 31 following a September conscription;
  • The student must be under 19 years of age.

Admission is discriminatory and is based on educational and leadership perspectives.

Undergraduate Academic and Vocational Programs

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Proof of English language aptitude test is vital from all applicants whose English is not their first language or from those whose schooling was accomplished in any country where English is not the official language.
  • For students who meet up the school necessities but not the English language requirement, conditional acceptance to VIU may be approved. In this case, admission is granted awaiting completion of VIU’s English Language Centre program (level UP5).
  • Up to 30 basic credits may be approved for superior position and International Baccalaureate (higher level) courses.
  • Academic programs may have supplementary program entrance necessities and course basics. Please verify your exact course necessities from VIU programs.
  •  All International students who are BC high school graduates must have a maximum grade of “C” in English 12 for direct entry into an academic program.

To meet the English language necessities for academic programs, students must have accomplished one of the following:

·         General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE)
English at the O-level with a minimum grade of C or 4
·         CAEL online (Fall 2021 / Spring 2022 only)
·         TOEFL iBT Home Edition (fall 2021/Spring 2022 only)
