General Admission Criteria for University of Toronto Graduate Application

  • An appropriate master’s degree, or its equivalent, with an average of at least B+ or, demonstrate comparable research competence.
  • Various departments admit directly to the doctoral program with a bachelor’s degree for highly qualified candidates (a minimum average of A- is required).

English Language Requirements

If English is not your first language, you are required to give proof of satisfactory English ability for admission consideration, unless you qualify for an exemption.

You might be eligible for an exemption from the English facility requirement if one of the following applies to you:

  • If you have accomplished four or more years of full-time study in a standard Canadian school (in Canada) that teaches English
  • You are qualified because you have completed four or more years of full–time study in an English language school located in a country where the dominant language is the English language.
  • If you have accomplished four or more years in school where the language is French and you have completed four or more years of full-time studies at a Canadian school.

Required Documents

You must submit full documentation (transcripts) for all secondary and post-secondary studies attempt. Transcripts and test scores must be submitted electronically the opportunity to upload your documents will be given .
